Gerry is best known as the arranger, composer and organist in the Grammy-nominated soul jazz trio Paradigm Shift. He has 5 recorded CDs with original music including over 40 songs he has written. An in-demand teacher, he offers individualized trumpet, organ, piano, and jazz composition lessons.

Gerry Youngman is versatile in his approach to performing, teaching and composing music. It is not something he does but has to do…. The gift of his music has been thrilling audiences and inspiring students for most of his lifetime.

Recording Artist

Gerry is one of the top performers in the world for two of the most difficult instruments, organ and trumpet. From the big B3 to his rig of choice, the Nord C3, Gerry has the chops to play the classic blues of Jimmy Smith as well as original compositions of soul jazz.

In a given night you might see Gerry play organ, trumpet, and flugelhorn.  From jazz to R&B to blues, he has mastered a range of musical genres and will not let his music be in a little box.

A lifetime of music has given Gerry an important perspective that is an inspiration to his students.  He has students from 5 to 77 years old and he gives each just what they need.   Many teachers of his stature do not want to work with beginners but Gerry is comfortable working at all levels.  From trumpet to organ to piano, Gerry lessons are everything from music theory to practical performance tips to the finesse that can only be learned from a gigging musician.

A new album by Paradim Shift called Tour Redux Partie 1, with many original songs by Gerry, is now available for sale on CD Baby. Gerry has written many memorable original compositions from the ballad to the funky tunes.  He is signed to a Nagel Heyer a jazz record label in Hamburg, Germany and many of these pieces have been recorded in albums with Paradigm Shift (Tour ReduxShifting Times, Street Expressionism). He has recorded with the Ed Koban Group (How to Fly), the Patti Parks Band (Cheat’n Man) and The Bill Tiberio Band (The Story Ends… the Story Begins, Promise Street).
